Things You Might Not Know About Reiki

Whether you’re just hearing about Reiki or you’re a practitioner, there may be some things that you’ll find surprising about this fascinating modality.

If you have a health savings account, you can probably use it to pay for your Reiki sessions. This means you won’t be paying income tax on earnings you spend on your sessions. In fact, chances are you can also use the account for Polarity Therapy, Aromatherapy and a number of other holistic treatments. Not eligible for payment by some health savings programs are massage and acupuncture, since they are now considered “mainstream”. Check your policy for details or talk to your Human Resources professional. NOTE: new IRS guidelines have removed all these items from eligibility for payment with HSA’s and FSA’s.

Clinical trials for Reiki funded by the National Institutes of Health were conducted at the Cleveland Clinic, beginning in 2006. These clinical trials included Reiki for stress reduction and for prostate cancer. Today all Cleveland hospitals offer Reiki to inpatients, outpatients or both. Most of the people who take Reiki classes only treat themselves, immediate family members and friends. The majority do not take classes to become practitioners. Many people are surprised at how much personal growth is stimulated by Reiki training. Students report developing a deeper sense of trust, becoming less judgmental, letting go of dysfunctional patterns, reduced or eliminated anxiety, and becoming more aware, among other benefits.

Reiki is one form of “energy medicine”, a specialty field of holistic medicine, which also includes accupuncture, accupressure,  EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Polarity Therapy, Energy Psychology, Light Therapy, Shamanic Healing, and sound healing among other modalities.

Belief in Reiki is not a requirement for it to work. In fact, since a skeptical client may not expect any good results they can become a better supporter of the work than someone who is overly enthusiastic and expects more than can be accomplished in a session or two.

You don’t have to be in the same room, city, state or continent as the pracitioner to receive a session. Energy goes everywhere and it can be directed by the practitioner’s intent.

Hope you found at least a few new things in this list that you weren’t aware of before. Would love to hear from you if you have other interesting Reiki facts.
