Things You Might Not Know About Reiki

Whether you’re just hearing about Reiki or you’re a practitioner, there may be some things that you’ll find surprising about this fascinating modality.

If you have a health savings account, you can probably use it to pay for your Reiki sessions. This means you won’t be paying income tax on earnings you spend on your sessions. In fact, chances are you can also use the account for Polarity Therapy, Aromatherapy and a number of other holistic treatments. Not eligible for payment by some health savings programs are massage and acupuncture, since they are now considered “mainstream”. Check your policy for details or talk to your Human Resources professional. NOTE: new IRS guidelines have removed all these items from eligibility for payment with HSA’s and FSA’s. Continue reading

Stress…..  Why it Matters and What to do About It.

TuningForkOne of my favorite medical doctors is Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. He has a wonderful app that is available in the Apple Store. He says something that provokes an amazing revelation. It goes something like this:  In France, the culture drinks tons of wine, and eats lots of cheese, and they suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. In Germany, they eat fatty sausage, and drink beer, and they suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. In Italy, they eat pasta, drink wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

How to Tell When You’re Not Grounded

dandelionWhen you’re grounded you have full access to all your talents. You feel in the flow and things may even seem to come effortlessly. You’re able to get a lot of things accomplished in record time. You’re even-tempered and quick-thinking.

If you haven’t felt that way in a while, you might be ungrounded. Sometimes in my practice, I’ll see a client who has been ungrounded for such a long time that it has become their new normal. Their quality of life suffers as a result and it can take a while to get them grounded again. So identifying ungroundedness early on is really beneficial. Continue reading

Grounding

treebenchSummer is such a great time to take advantage of your surroundings.   Whether day or night the warmth makes you feel whole with the universe. I recently had the opportunity to stand on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan and let the water swirl around my ankles. My feet quickly disappeared in the wet sand. It was so peaceful. I felt solid, secure and alive in the world. Continue reading

Jasmine’s Story- Journey to Balance

depressionI first met Jasmine* over twenty years ago when I ran a tiny art store in her neighborhood. Jasmine was creative and had a deep appreciation for the products offered so she stopped in often. She was one of those people who knew everyone– and everyone either knew Jasmine or wanted to know her. She was witty, interesting, friendly and sharp. What few beyond her family knew, was that she was suffering from depression- and this was way beyond the blues. This was chronic major depression, and as it reached its depths, Jasmine began spending more and more time secluded alone in her home- unable to interact with the community that she loved. Her quality of life seriously eroded. Continue reading

By Fiona Storey [Public domain], via Wikimedia CommonsEssential oils have been in use for centuries. Fortunately for us, their benefits and healing qualities have become more widespread and documented in recent years. Simple blends of pure oils are often more effective than over- the- counter and even prescription medications- without the adverse side effects. Continue reading

Five Spring Cleaning Methods for Your Energy Field!

irisThis winter has been brutal- by some estimates it’s the worst in 100 years. Hopefully we have seen the last of the season’s snow. But if your body feels like a dark sluggish winter when it should feel like a bright vibrant spring, there are plenty of things to get your energy in sync with the calendar- even if the weather doesn’t quite match up with the date. Continue reading

Spring is Here!

footWith winter finally coming to an end, it is time to do spring cleaning, and spring cleaning should include treating your body to a Detox. There are MANY ways to detox, and many programs on the market. I personally have done the Master Cleanse almost every year, but those types of programs can be extreme and hard to stick to.

One of the ways of cleansing the body that is commonly overlooked is the Ionic Foot Detox. Perhaps the best thing about it is that it gives you 30 minutes of time away from the hustle and bustle of your daily routine in an environment that is conducive to healing. Continue reading

Balance Your Chakras- Balance Your Life!

heart2Chakras are energetic centers that interact with the physical, emotional and mental aspects of the human experience.

According to medical intuitive and author Caroline Myss: “Every thought and experience you’ve ever had in your life gets filtered through these chakra databases. Each event is recorded into your cells. In other words, ‘your biography becomes your biology.’ When chakra energy is blocked or misdirected, emotional and physical illness can arise.”

Chakras transmit and receive information in the form of energy. A balance is ideal, with each chakra interacting with each other as well as within its own “realm” which includes nerve ganglia, organs, body systems, emotions, glands and their hormones. However, they can become out of balance through trauma, negative experiences or attitudes, or limited belief systems. An imbalance can cause some chakras to become over or under active. But how does that affect your life? Continue reading
